Shortest Hike?

From: Rose Halter (rosmarinus@nrcengineering.com) | Date: 2005-05-17 01:50:59 UTC
Can I claim the record for the shortest letterboxing hike? This
weekend, driving on a country road, I pulled our car off the road near
a fence row to read the clues. We were to locate a white sign on a
fencepost. The box was to be behind the sign.

My husband, in the passenger seat, said "there's the sign." He could
almost reach out and touch it- it was barely 5 feet away. We "hiked"
the 5 feet and found the box. Can you top this?

No. Although the ones in Strugbridge were very close.

Yep! We have one in the area that is listed as a drive by. You drive up next
to the hiding place, if you're a good driver you could actually lean out of
the seat and pick up the box. If not, you could get close enough to only
have to take one or two steps.

There's a box in Middlebury, CT for the handicapped which is in a mailbox type thing, which you don't need to get out of the car for. Just put in the combination to the lock (which you have to figure out from the clues) and voila!

Wow! I thought I had planted the world's shortest hike with
my "Tangled Woods" box - but you have to hike about 10 steps for it.

LOL!

Sure can Rose!

Cheryl and I have perfected the art of car-boxing and frequently get within
a few feet of the box ; )

How about this one: While someone was house-sitting Funhog's place of
abode, she planted a letterbox in the house for Funhog to find later.

Funhog didn't even have to leave her house to look for that box! =)

Maybe - one LB I found was about 7 ft up in a tree. Getting it down with a
stick wasn't hard, but to put it back, I pulled my Miata (convertible) up to
the tree, stood on the seat to reach up to replace it. Does that count?

It certainly counted with The Gentleman who placed it!!!;-) He was very
impressed that you pulled it off in that location! (We're all looking
forward to watching you retrieve the second one in that series!)

I walked all of about three feet today to the "Dala Horse" near IKEA in
Schaumburg, IL. Broke three ribs Sunday morning. I wasn't about to let it
interfere with our letterboxing. I'm glad we saved some of the ones
involving less walking for a "rainy" day. Cute little Swedish horsie
carving.

Has the second one been placed yet - did I miss the posting? I've been
trying to be vigilant to look for it! If it's there, I'll go find it! -

Boy!!!! I wish someone would do that for me!!!!! Sounds like fun! Chrissy, Kreepy Kelli and I actually hid letterboxing stamps in Chrissy's dad's house as a present for letting us stay there. We made her dad and his girlfriend look for them!

Wow! Some of these posts beat even "the Budsters" - " Keys to the
Catskills,NY LB , where you can drive next to it (about 5 feet) but have
to get out of the car , just about sitdown and extract the LB which is up
and underneath a Bulliten board.

Bravo!
